“The World’s Largest Standing Windmill Collection in the World”
The windmill, itself, is one of the most significant inventions in American history. It is said that it had more to do with settling the West than the gun itself! Because of the windmill early pioneers and homesteaders were able to bring forth water from a land where it was scarcely flowing in rivers and streams: a land once known as the Great American Desert. Windmills meant life. They meant life for the pioneers, the livestock and the crops that nourished them. Prior to the advent of electricity, harnessing the wind was the only way to pull water from the ground. Still used today, windmills play an important part in the Sandhills of Nebraska and many other remote areas. Their value is priceless and their nostalgia is timeless. At one time there were over 300 windmill manufacturers but now only a few remain. The most photographed invention of all time the windmill and its romanticism will go on for eternity.

Email: sales@marlec.co.uk |Marlec was formed in 1979 by our founder John Fawkes who subsequently received a wind energy pioneer award from the British Wind Energy Association. As an engineer he was asked to investigate methods of keeping batteries topped up on farms to operate electric fence units.
The solution was the Rutland Windcharger a simple, reliable and efficient wind driven battery charging generator. Uses for the Rutland quickly diversified and they were soon also seen on ocean going yachts, remote telecommunication sites, static caravans, isolated homes, navigational buoys, clinics in Africa, etc.
Marlec has extended its range of windchargers over the years and has a strong emphasis on product development, continually improving design and performance. In-house manufacturing of generators and other components using our own engineering workshops ensures that quality is carefully controlled and all parts and tooling are made to the highest possible standard. Marlec is proud to be an ISO9001 registered company, one of very few in the renewable energy field internationally.
Marlec's portfolio of "clean energy" products has expanded to incorporate photovoltaics (solar) power, wind pumping systems, low energy dc lamps, water current turbines, batteries and inverters.
Worldwide there are tens of thousands of satisfied Marlec product users and in some of the earth's most extreme climates ranging from Antarctica to the Sahara Desert. Our quality control and attention to detail along with our innovative flair are without question. Wherever there is a need for power, at any location in the world, Marlec has the solution for independent renewable energy systems.
Rutland Windcharger
-- reliable
-- cost effective
-- efficient durable
-- simple to install
-- simple to maintain
-- No other windcharger available uses a generator specifically designed for a wind turbine.
-- We developed our stator windings without an iron core for low friction
so a Rutland offers the lowest wind speed start up by far of any design
-- We encapsulate the stator coils in glass fibre to avoid common stator failures
-- We fixed the shaft reducing the number of rotating parts.
-- We use two single magnets molded into glass fibre avoiding the use of multiple magnets glued into position
-- These features create a high inertia generator whose flywheel effect generates smooth, continuous power between gusts when other wind turbines have lost the power in the wind.
-- All our designs are tested in real wind conditions and performance quoted on long term data (most companies quote outputs based on fixed wind speed)
-- We test and record results of every generator built.

Wind Harvest Company
is a California-based company that makes Windstar™, a unique vertical axis, straight-bladed wind turbine for the production of electricity. With over 20 years of experience in research, development, and operation of our patented design, we provide excellent, reliable energy production by harvesting the wind. Windstar makes financial sense. The Windstar Turbine™ is both cost- and performance-effective. With an annual average windspeed of 15 MPH and a 59KW capacity, it is capable of generating 100,000 KW hours of electricity each year, which translates into approximately $1000 per installed kilowatt.

Wind Harvest Company has developed a very interesting type of wind turbine, called the WindStar, which has straight blades moving around a vertical axis. The turbines provide cheap, clean, clever, safe and silent energy from a renewable source. Now that's exactly the kind of energy we would love to use to toast our toast, light our bulbs or surf the web, instead of going with companies that run through fossil fuel like there's no tomorrow’!
