-- to identify and reduce negative impacts of agriculture on natural resources and rural communitiesTo carry out these objectives, the Center provides funding for research and demonstration through a Competitive Grants Program. It also sponsors interdisciplinary research issue teams and provides information through a variety of educational programs and publications.
-- to develop profitable farming systems that conserve natural resources
-- to work with ISU Extension and other groups to inform the public of new research findings
Education programs include statewide conferences, regional conferences and special programs; support of other education events; and presentations at field days, farmer meetings, and professional community functions. The Leopold Center has also coordinated focus groups and listening sessions to gather input on Iowa agricultural needs.
Information and publications available from the Center highlight
results from all of these activities. A quarterly newsletter, annual report
of Center activities, yearly summary of research results, conference proceedings,
fact sheets, other special publications, and news releases all help the
Center to fulfill its mission of informing the public.
